Foods to Keep you Healthy and Well-Nourished while on Camping
Do you have an idea what type of foods are ideal to eat when you are on camping? Remember that you are on an outdoor activity. You are limited to bring enough foods during the duration of your camping activity. Definitely there are no restaurants to serve you foods, especially when you are camping on wilderness.
Planning your Camp Menu
Before deciding on what foods are ideal for camping on different seasons (whether it wound be on a winter, summer, or spring), you need to plan your camp menu. In planning, there are several things you need to consider. These are briefly discussed in the preceding sections.
Consideration No.1: Duration of your Camping
It is important that you know how long your camping activity will last. Make sure that you do not under pack your camping food—if you are camping for about 4 days, prepare foods that will last for five days or longer. It is better to have an extra supply rather than be short-handed. In case you will be doing some extra activities such as hiking, you will not be worrying about your hunger later on.
Consideration No.2: Pack Foods that you want to Eat
Of course, you will not be spending your camping by packing foods which you do not like. Although there are foods that are suggested to be pack on a camp, it does not necessarily mean that you will be following it rigorously. What if the foods suggested are not what you like? Got the point?
Consideration No.3: Nutrition
Make sure that you take camping foods that keep you well-fed and your energy level up. It will keep your body in good shape even you are outdoor and at the same time giving your body the necessary nutrients that can keep you away from certain diseases. Energy bars and gels is not enough for you to get the necessary nutrition intake that you need for a particular day. Do yourself a favor and prepare foods that are nutritious enough.
Suggested Foods while on Camping
When you are on camping, it is important that you take plenty of foods and water to keep your body regularly nourished. The foods that you will bring should be easy to store and carry. Non-perishable items are best to take, although if you are planning to take with you some perishable items, it is advised that you have an access to a refrigerator or cooler that will keep your foods fresh.
Bring foods that are lightweight such as cereals, dried fruits, and nutritious snacks. These items can be stored in an airtight container. You can also bring drink mixes such as coffee and tea to mix with water if you want to have a refreshing drink to pick up in the morning. If you prefer easy-to-prepare warm meals, you can include in your camp menu several cups of soup packets where you just need to add some hot water and you now have a warm meal or snack in a few minutes. It is also good especially when you are on camping during cold weather.
Canned meats and vegetables are also good source of nutrition. Fishes such as tune or salmon and canned chicken can also be used in several easy to prepare recipes. Salami does not need to be cooked and is great on crackers for a snack.
These are just some of the ideal foods when you are on camping. Remember the mentioned considerations and you will be surely enjoying your camping and at the same time keeping your energy level high.
